We appreciate that we are all worried about the current Covid-19 pandemic. However, like everyone else, we’re inspired by the national surge in community spirit and to that end, we decided to see what we could to help.
So, we reached out to our network of health professionals and we put our collective minds and shared resources to work.
The result of our endeavours is a brand new Covid-19 test kit that has the CE-IVD marking for professional use, which is required for all in vitro diagnostic (IVD) devices sold in Europe. CE Marking indicates that an IVD device complies with the European In-Vitro Diagnostic Devices Directive (98/79/EC) and that the device may be legally commercialised in the EU. We are now able to offer limited numbers to health professionals to ease the strain on the public health numbers and hopefully put many minds to rest.
The Covid-19 Rapid Test is a finger prick test kit which detects IgG and IgM antibodies to COVID-19 in human whole blood with only 10 minutes assay time. This type of test is less invasive than a venous sample. The bulk test kits contain instructions, 30 finger pricks, 30 pipettes, 30 cassette and 2 buffers. The finger prick is used to prick the finger which allows for the collection of a small blood sample using the pipette. A drop of blood is then dropped into the cassette followed by 2 drops of the buffer liquid. The cassette then displays either a positive or negative result.
Whilst nothing is fool-proof, health organisations around the globe have successfully used this very test to calculate numbers. The Covid-19 Rapid Test kit is only available for professional use.
We are offering this test in partnership with Dr Bobby Ahmed and his team of health professionals across the UK. Dr Ahmed is an experienced physician and known for his media appearances on BBC and Heart Radio and his extensive charity work. He is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) and has been awarded the Diploma in Occupational Medicine (DOccMed) and also the world-renowned diploma in Travel Medicine (AFTM RCPS (Glasg)).
